Mary S. Walters, née Straub
Now resting in the hands of God. Mary was born July 4, 1930 in Kansas City Mo. The only child of Joseph V. Straub and Edna C. Straub, née Altman.
She married Frank A. Windler, Jr. and they had one child, Frank A. Windler III (Pancho) her husband preceded her in death.
Mary graduated from Loretto Academy and Bishop Hogan High School in Kansas City and attended Lindenwood College for 2 years.
She worked for 3 years as a legal secretary in KC, then worked for “Saddle and Bridle Magazine” of St. Louis writing her column called “Short Snorts” by Mary Straub.
During the same time, Mary was showing her black 3-Gated World Champion horse (Five Minutes to Midnight) throughout the Midwest and Southern states.
She worked at Stix Baer & Fuller as a house model and did special shows for Country Clubs for 10 years.
Mary married Dr. Harold E. Walters, Past Potentate of Moolah Shriners, and she was former First Lady of Moolah Shriners. They travelled extensively to Mexico, the Orient and the Dominican Republic.
Mary helped run a shop called “Second Fiddle Fashions” for the St. Louis Symphony, and went on to volunteer for 15 years at the Scholar Shop, pricing furs for them.
She bought and sold antiques at Selkirks for 50 years for her own personal hobby with an emphasis on Oriental items.
Mary was stylish and sophisticated, but down to earth and fun to be around. She had a zest for life and was always looking forward to the next party.

SERVICES: visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm in the Great Hall of Ambruster Chapel Funeral Home (Clayton, MO). Funeral Mass will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:45 am. Those wishing to visit gravesite, Mary will be buried with her husband (Harold E. Walters) in Section 1P, grave 795.
