Rosine Victorine Angele DeLuycker

Rosine was born in Wetteren, Belgium on April 8, 1933. Her parents were Alphonse Verstraeten and Germaine Raes. She was the only girl in a family of four brothers: Georges, Arthur, Theo, and Louis. She grew up in Belgium and experienced the terrible World War II. She immigrated to America in 1962, traveling by herself, where she got a job as a governess for the Belgian Consulate in Evanston, Illinois. She attended a New Year’s Eve party in Lake Forest, IL, 1963 and met her husband Remi DeLuycker from Deinze, Belgium. They fell in love and were married at St. Mary’s Church in Lake Forest in September of 1964. She and Remi lived in Lake Forest before buying a house in Knollwood (Lake Bluff) where they lived for thirty years raising three children. They then retired to Parrish, Florida. Rosine was a courageous, adventurous, strong, incredibly humorous person. She enjoyed reading nonfiction, especially biographies. She loved to travel and she and Remi had the opportunity to visit many beautiful places, with New Zealand among her favorites. She could speak, read, and write three languages. She was a lover of the natural world, and collected flowers to make handmade cards, which she gave to all. She was generous, deeply devoted to her family and always put her children first. She made good friends everywhere she went and was loved. She is dearly missed. Rosine is preceded in death by her husband Remi M. DeLuycker. She is survived by her son, Peter DeLuycker, her daughter Maria Kremsreiter (Paul and her two grandchildren Clare and John Paul) and her daughter Anneke DeLuycker (John Blackburn III).
