Roosevelt L. Beck

Roosevelt Landon Beck (“RL”), 85, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on December 26, 2021, after a long battle with cancer.

RL was the seventh of ten children born to the late William Luther and Gracie Pearl Beck. He grew up in Ellington, Missouri, and graduated from Ellington High School in 1955.

At the age of 19, RL enlisted in the Army, serving three years as a radar repairman and three years in the Army reserves. While stationed in Cleveland, Ohio, he met his wife Charlotte, to whom he was married for 59 years.

As a teen, RL worked for a company called FACT Photo (n/k/a CPI). After his Army service, RL returned to the company as a photographic equipment technician.  RL operated CPI’s first same-day photo-finishing lab in Ohio and despite only having a high school education with some college courses, he worked his way up the company ladder and was eventually promoted to President of CPI’s Photo-finishing Division. He retired in 1995 after 33 years of service.

RL was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, college basketball (especially the Indiana Hoosiers and Louisville Cardinals), and country and western music. He had a passion for photography, travel and a good pun. After his retirement he volunteered with Therapeutic Horsemanship and enjoyed riding his horse, Buck.  Most of all he had a love for his family and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be missed by many.

RL is survived by his wife Charlotte; children Carla (Tom) Brown, Annette (Randall) Markarian, and Randy Beck; grandchildren Grace, Gabrielle and Gillian Markarian, and Landon and Elena Brown; siblings Doyle (Linda) Beck, Wanda (Steve) DeClue, Mary (Russ) Luecke, and Victor (Joan) Beck; sister-in-law Marie Beck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
