Jay D. Justice
65, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2018, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Jay was born in Kansas City, KS on December 29, 1952, to John "Jack" E. and Jacqueline "Jackie" L. (Wiant) Justice, both of whom preceded him in death. He had one brother, John, who also preceded him in death.
Jay grew up in the Kansas City area where he graduated from Rockhurst University and went on to earn a law degree from Washburn University School of Law. While in college Jay met his beloved wife, Mary Alice (Eschbacher). They were married on August 9, 1975, and recently celebrated 43 years together. They raised three children, Sarah (Adam Davis) Justice of Columbia, MO, Patrick (Jenny) Justice of Chicago, IL, and Anne (John) Bosse of St. Louis, MO, in St. Louis, MO before settling most recently in Springfield, IL. Jay was also the beloved Poppa to Mason and Maggie Justice-Davis.
Jay served as the Chief People Officer at Adena Health System in Chillicothe, OH, which was recognized as a 2018 winner of Gallup's Great Workplace Awards under his leadership, one of only 39 organizations worldwide to receive such a distinction.
Jay was an incredible husband, father, Poppa, son, brother, uncle, colleague and friend. He will be greatly missed, especially for his dedication to his family; his amazing talents in the kitchen and on the grill; his perfect pour of his favorite Grey Goose martini (neat, straight up in a chilled glass); his impressive collection of dad shirts; his impeccable dashboard synthesizer skills when "Lucky Man" came on the radio; his wit, humor and fondness for a terrible pun; his love of cars; his notable home improvement projects; his work ethic; and his willingness to always jump in and help others.
In addition to his immediate family mentioned above, Jay is survived by his mother-in-law, Marie Eschbacher, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
