Alma Virginia Vandereem
Alma Virginia Vandereem, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Robert F. Pieper and the late Thomas A. Vandereem; loving mother of Robert F.X. (Bob) Pieper; dear sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Known to her many friends and family members as Virginia, she was born on August 16, 1920 to Eugene and Alma Conroy of Richmond Heights. She and her beloved first husband, Robert F. Pieper, were married in 1950 and the following year celebrated the birth of a son. After suffering the loss of her beloved first husband to illness in 1953 (after only two years of marriage), Virginia dedicated herself to raising her son and maintaining a household with her beloved father and beloved sister, the late Catherine L. Conroy. Voluntarily taking employment to supplement federal pension benefits provided after her first husband’s death, Virginia saved enough to purchase a home for herself and her son in 1963, and later to assist in the securing of a college degree for her son from St. Louis University. She worked as a secretary/office manager at Glastris-Manning Advertising in Richmond Heights during the late 1960s and early 1970s. After remarrying in 1975, she proudly worked until the age of 74, alongside her beloved second husband, Tom Vandereem; operating Van’s Bookkeeping in Richmond Heights until the time of his death in 1994. She proudly resided in the home she loved through the duration of her life; often enjoying outings and visits with friends and family. She was a near-lifelong resident of Richmond Heights, member of St. Luke Catholic Church, and a graduate of Maplewood Richmond Heights High School.
Services: Motor procession departs from Ambruster Mortuary, 6633 Clayton Road, (Clayton) Monday, April 23, 12:00 pm (noon) to Calvary Cemetery 5239 West Florissant Avenue, St. Louis, MO, for a 1:00 pm service and interment.
