In Loving Memory Sidney Rollins Overall III, January 10,1949-August 21, 2023
On August 21, 2023, we bid farewell to a man whose captivating stories, outgoing nature, remarkable generosity, loyalty, and deep family bonds enriched the lives of, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on January 10, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, Sidney was the son of the late Captain Sidney R. Overall, Jr. (USN, Ret.) and Mary Jane O’Reilly Overall. Sidney embarked on a life journey that echoed the adventurous spirit of his upbringing. His early years were a testament to his adaptability and curiosity, as he moved across continents alongside his family. He traveled and lived in many different countries including Morocco, Puerto Rico, France, Belgium, and numerous states within the continental United States.
Educated at Georgetown Preparatory School, in North Bethesda, Maryland, Sidney graduated in 1967, a foundation that would set the standard for his future accomplishments. He pursued higher education at Boston University, where his major field of interest was Philosophy; he was a true lover of language and logic.
Sidney established roots in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and he co-founded O&S Associates on April Fool’s Day 1986, with his dear friend and business partner Donald Sheerin. He formed many close relationships and was instantaneous friends with anyone he met. Often the life of the party, he charmed many with his quick wit and sense of humor. Upon his retirement in 2016, he most looked forward to meaningful conversations, storytelling, and sharing the tales of his adventures. An ardent New England Patriots football fan, Sidney's passionate enthusiasm for the team was evident in his steadfast support and the spirited banter that accompanied each game.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sidney's love for life was most profoundly felt in his relationships. Twice married, he leaves behind his cherished daughters, Taber Sanderson (David) and Faith Overall (Zack), who embody his legacy of love, resilience, and grace. His memory lives on through his devoted sisters, Mary Jane Overall, Clemence Overall (Mark Wotherspoon), and Phoebe Busges (Michael), his brother, Curtis Overall (Elizabeth), and Lee Overall, who offered her unwavering companionship. Sidney is also survived by his beloved grandson Porter Sanderson, nephews Adrian Bannister (Jen), Christopher Fleurat (Natalie), Thomas Wotherspoon, James Overall (Lu), Clemence Wotherspoon, Auriel Barko (Bobby), Joseph Overall (Kelsey), and seven grand nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: On Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., the family welcomes you to join them at Ambruster Chapel, 6633 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63117, followed by an 11:00 a.m. graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, 5239 W. Florissant Ave, St. Louis, MO 63115. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to the following organizations he continuously supported: Leave No Trace ; Disabled Veterans National Foundation ; WGBH.
As we remember Sidney Rollins Overall, may his tales of adventure echo in our hearts, his love for life inspire us, and his unwavering bonds with family remind us of the preciousness of the connections we share. Sidney's journey may have reached its end, but his spirit will forever remain in the lives he touched.
