Federico Mati
Federico Mati
June 19, 1934 to September 19, 2021
Born in Prato, Italy to Antonietta Fossati, and Leone Mati. He is proceeded in death by both his parents and younger sister Elisabetta. In his youth he lived in many different regions of Italy due to his Father’s position in Higher Education. Federico is survived by his beloved wife Susan Paganini, his loved daughter and son, Raffaela Mati Zamperini, and Stefano Mati, their spouses Maurilio , and Francesca, and three grandchildren, Guido, Chiara, and Jacopo, his younger brother Giovanni, and his two sons, Tomaso, and Jacapo, and his sister’s son Lorenzo.
After spending time at the University, Federico entered the Army in the Transportation division, and became an officer. After fulfilling his Army obligation, he went back to his hometown of Prato, and started a Textile export company called Atlantica, in September 1957. Little did he know he would become the premier textile exporter in Prato, and in the entire country of Italy, so much so that in December 27th 1987, he was ordained Cavaleire by the President of Italy for his contribution to the Italy’s economy. This is the highest honor a civilian can receive. Besides being proud of his business accomplishments, he was equally proud of his estate, and all the hard work, and passion he put into the land, and his beloved olive orchards. Working his property, and seeing the fruits of his hard work, was equally rewarding as his business life. In 2000, Federico decided to retire, and moved West to California. There with equal passion, he planted and cultivated a small olive orchard, a beautiful rose garden, and variety of fruit trees. He was able to bring Italy to California, both in his home and his property. I would be remiss not to mention his love for boats, fast cars, Fomula1, soccer, his beloved Florentine team, and his love for women. Eventually life and age caught up with him, and as invincible as he was, he was unable to fight off Alzheimer’s. He lived, and fought the disease for 6 years; unfortunately the last 3 years took a toll on him. Federico passed peacefully Sunday September 19th at 12:17pm, surrounded with love. Federico had no regrets, or apologies, he was content with his accomplishments, wonderful children, grandchildren, and a life full of successes.
Services: a Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 15th, 2021 at 7:00pm - St Joseph’s Parish, Clayton, Missouri 63105.
